• DEF is required by over the road vehicles with a “SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION” (SCR) device to reduce NOx
  .
• NOx reduction applies to 2010 MODEL YEAR AND NEWER.
  
  
• All of the major engine manufacturers are using SCR method. (requires DEF)
  
  
• DEF contains 33% UREA / 66% De-ionized Water.
  
  
• DEF begins to crystallize at -5 deg C and becomes solid at -12 deg C.
  
  
• DEF will not degrade through freeze/thaw cycles.
  
  
• Highway trucks will have a reservoir to hold 60-75 litres of DEF.
  
  
• This capacity should last roughly for 3 fills of fuel.
  
  
• Highway trucks consume DEF at a rate of 2% of the consumption of fuel.
  
  
• Trucks will be rigged to only achieve 20 kmph when DEF is empty.
  
  
• Packaged DEF and bulk is available now.
  
  
• DEF is manufactured to ISO and API standards of purity.
  
  
•  DEF is shown as NON TOXIC on MSDS sheets.
  
  
• Enforcement of handling practices is unknown at this time.
  
  
• DEF is NOT compatible with mild steel and is NOT recommended with aluminum (DEF is somewhat corrosive).  STAINLESS STEEL IS THE BEST OPTION
